Norwegian striker Erling Haaland is set to join Manchester City in a high-profile summer move from Borussia Dortmund after both said Tuesday they have reached an according agreement in principle.

Haaland had an €75-million ($78 million) buyout clause in his Dortmund contract until 2024 and is now set for a July 1 move from the Bundesliga runners-up to Pep Guardiola's reigning Premier League champions.

The 21-year-old came to Dortmund in January 2020 from RB Salzburg and was reportedly sought by several European top clubs including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona."Manchester City can confirm we have reached an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of striker Erling Haaland to the Club on 1st July 2022. The transfer remains subject to the Club finalising terms with the player," City said.

Dortmund said: "Erling Haaland is close to move from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City. This is the today's mutual agreement in principle of all parties. The contractual details now have to be coordinated and completed."Haaland reportedly completed his mandatory medical on Monday in Brussels after being given the day off by Dortmund to sort out personal matters. His final Dortmund appearance will be in Saturday's Bundesliga finale against Hertha Berlin. He scored has 85 goals in 87 games for the German top side, making him one of the best strikers in Europe.

At City, Haaland will follow in the footsteps of his father Alf-Inge, who played for them 2000-2003. Erling haaland was born in nearby Leeds.Haaland is seen as a late replacement for Sergio Aguero who left City last year for Barcelona and since had to end his career over heart problems. City failed 12 months ago to lure Harry kane away from Tottenham.

Guardiola had hinted earlier Tuesday that an announcement was imminent, saying: "Borussia Dortmund and Man City told me I’m not allowed to say anything until it’s completely done.”“I’d love to talk but they tell me don’t say anything until the legal actions.”Dortmund seem to have a replacement for Haaland as Germany striker Karim Adeyemi reportedly arrived in town earlier Tuesday for the medical and to sign what is reportedly a five-year contract. Like Haaland, he would arrive from Salzburg.
